COVID-19 is today’s hard reality which has affected the world negatively at all levels. The situations are so grime, that many businesses have been affected and more than that travelling and touring around the world has been put on hold. As much safety and hygiene are today’s top priority it is necessary to look at measures and tactics to normalise our lives post the lockdown scenario.  India has opened domestic travels for now. However, in order to restore and work towards a more strengthened economy, we as individuals need to look at ways to balance both our personal and professional travelling keeping the safety of us and our families in mind.

Here are my top 7 tips to help you with your next business travel.

1. Sanitise & Hygiene

Well, one of the foremost essential tip in both pre and post-COVID-19 scenario is ensuring that you need to keep the pesky little bacteria and viruses away from you. Long flights and current conditions with respect to both symptomatic and asymptomatic travel is so frightening that you would never know when you are infected. Hence, it’s important to ensure proper safety and sanitisation. This situation calls for extra care, hence, make sure you carry a spray sanitiser and wear masks, gloves and face shield to avoid catching COVID-19 when travelling in flights. You can skip the face shield if you are travelling otherwise throughout the city.

Usually, the folding trays in the flights get rarely cleaned and hence, is a host to a variety of diseases and bacteria. Make sure you sanitise it both before and after use. Apart from that make sure you drink lots of water and stay well hydrated. Preferably you can carry supplement pills such as ‘Tumeric’ to boost us your immunity. Brands like Organic India are trusted when it comes to organic/ ayurvedic supplements. These don’t have an adverse effect on the body but make sure you consult a physician first. Apart from this, you can sip on some ginger tea, chamomile and peppermint tea to keep the flu at bay.

2. Read A Book

Usually, it can be quiet boring if you are travelling on long flights. To avoid getting agitated due to the same you can carry some of your favourite books to read during the journey. You could also choose to download some good entrepreneurship and motivation based podcast to utilise this time for some knowledge gaining. If you are not a book person and enjoy sleeping throughout your journey, make sure you carry some soft foam disposable earplugs for a comfortable and sound sleep.

3. Eat Well

Eating at airports can be very dicey these days owing to the situation. However, if you are confused make sure you follow the lead of airport staff and where they are eating. This would genuinely help you identify outlets which are pocket sensitive and have a great quality of food since they are frequent airports more. If this is your first business /leisure travel experience make sure you stick to the basics by going to the brands you identify with in your country. For example brands such as Dominos, Mc Donald and Starbucks can be found in almost all parts of the world. However, if you are worried about the surety of food, you can opt for vegetarian alternatives instead, as some food items can irritate your stomach and spoil your business travel.

4. Take Your Time With Security Checks!

Whether you are travelling for business or vacationing purposes it’s always a good idea to reach the airport on time. Apart from that if you are flying business class you will have a premier line and can access the flight much before than others. Hence, always keep the ID and boarding pass readily available to breeze through the security check. However, when it comes to security and safety checks make sure you are thoroughly checked both for your and other’s safety.

If at any point of your journey you feel unwell, make sure you reach out to the nearest hospital to get yourself checked. If you aren’t feeling well even in the slightest then choose to cancel the trip for the safety of others.

5. Keep All Contacts Safe

When you are on a business trip it’s essential to keep yourself connected with your contacts for effective communication. Usually, places like cafe’s, hotels and restaurants have free WIFI available with them. However, it’s a good idea to have data services active on your phone as it will help you with easily moving around in the city while connecting with people you are scheduled to meet.

6. Beat Jet Lag

Since I have travelled extensively for work around the world, I feel the one trusted tip I can share is to book flights which are according to your sleep schedule with respect to your destination. This way your sleep cycle won’t be disturbed and you will feel less exhausted when you reach there. Following the same pattern, you are going to have in your destination country and eating less will help you feel comfortable throughout the journey.

7. When in Rome, do as the Romans do

This famous proverbs is exactly what one should aim for when visiting a country for work or leisure. Choosing to do as the people do in the host city, would make you look less conspicuous. This way you will be safe and avoid unnecessary encounters with pick-pocketers.  For example, if you are in London, make sure you buy, read and carry a local paper. Holding a local paper in hand during your travel will make you look a part of that area.
