While Winters would mean traveling to summer destinations with beautiful sand beaches and luxuries, from my experiences, some of the best destinations around the world have a different charm in the winter months.
In this blog, I shall give you a mix of recommendations of the 6 destinations you should visit this winter. From ski destinations, capital cities, and beach towns, here is the comprehensive list that is TR certified!
New Zealand:
Albeit a bit far, New Zealand is one of the most picturesque places in the world. With cascading waterfalls, mountain gorges and green plains, this small country makes up for what it lacks in size with its diverse topography. Visit in the winter months (their summer) and you can expect to take a road trip and enjoy the landscape in cool 18-20 degree weather. Fun fact – all of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit was shot in New Zealand!

The Golden Triangle, India:
If winter destinations are on your mind, India could be just the ticket! While it can get very hot in the summer months, I have lived in Delhi my entire life and seen it transform into a winter heaven. Delhi’s rich Mughal cultural and historical legacy is complemented beautifully by the colors of Jaipur, the ancient capital city of the Rajputs. Explore extraordinary forts and local cuisine before completing the triangle at Agra, who’s Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and of course the magnificent Taj Mahal is renowned. Also places like Manali, Auli, Shimla are nearby which makes the Golden Triangle cooler.
Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is steeped in central European history, a decadent capital city that makes for a spectacular winter destination. Very picturesque and cultural, Prague is also very affordable with wonderful food options, cafes, and hotels. Its also good to note that Prague is very closely situated to the Swiss Alps and therefore makes a great pit stop before exploring incredible ski destinations.

Bali, Indonesia
What can be said more about this island paradise that hasn’t already been said! Bali is a picture-perfect island with an average temperature of 26-27 degrees in the winter, making it a perfect escape for those who don’t enjoy the winter months. Try to visit sufficiently early or later from New Years, which is when the island gets very crowded. Enjoy the pristine beaches, temples, street food and day excursions!
Rome, Italy
Come Christmas and Rome transform to a winter paradise. You will find many Christmas markets littered across open spaces near the Forum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. Take a walk across the beautifully decorated Vatican City, especially St. Peter’s Square. If you are visiting around Christmas Day, watch out for the Pope’s Mass where he addressed everyone assembled at the Square.
Maldives
The perfect and pristine beach destination located in isolation in the Arabian Sea, Maldives is perhaps best known for its calm waters which make for excellent snorkeling and diving enthusiasts! From the average temperature ranging from 25-27 degrees, enjoy the sun and pamper yourself silly by the beach. Do note that the Maldives is not particularly a cheap destination, so make sure you have all your travels pre-planned and sufficient budget.
